Fidenza, duomo (Cathedral of San Donnino), façade, sculptures between the left portal and the main portal: 862 / 5.000“King Herod”.The slab depicts Herod, king of Israel from 37 to 4 BC – sitting on a faldstool, in medieval clothes and with the royal insignia. To his right, seated in profile, a female figure (the queen?) holding a cylindrical container in her left hand.To the left of the sovereign, a kneeling nobleman presented by a soldier armed with a sword and dressed in a medieval helmet and coat of mail. To the far right, under a building, a man armed with a sword and dressed in an ornate tunic. On the slab, to the right and left of the king’s head, the inscription ERODES is engraved. It is not unlikely that the scene represents the moment in which the sovereign orders the Massacre of the Innocents (Mt 2:16-18), which would be coherently connected with the Adoration of the Magi, Joseph’s Dream and the Flight of the Three Kings, depic
