Palazzo Schifanoia, north wall, month of August: above the “Triumph of Ceres”. The goddess is depicted on the usual chariot, here pulled by winged dragons, while she holds the ear of corn in her right hand, as prescribed in the Astronomica of Manilius. On the right, in the background we can see the abduction of Ceres' daughter, Proserpina, considered protector of the crops.
